West Palm-area woman busted after cops find 67 pounds of pot, $46K in cash deposits
A suburban West Palm Beach woman is facing fraud and marijuana trafficking charges after police said they found 67 pounds of marijuana in her vehicle and more than $46,000 in cash deposits stemming from illegal drug activity.
Tagean Petergay Lug, 30, was arrested by Palm Beach County Sheriffs deputies Friday evening. She was released from the Palm Beach County Jail on Saturday evening on $15,000 bail.
According to a probable cause affidavit, deputies were executing a search warrant at Lug’s home on the 1100 block of Green Pine Boulevard on April 25 when Lug arrived in her vehicle. Lug told police she lived in the apartment with her live-in boyfriend.
Police initially searched Lug’s vehicle and found 67 pounds of marijuana. Inside her apartment, police found an additional 250 pounds of marijuana, along with $96,251 in cash.
Several financial documents were also discovered by police, including a 2012 tax return and a 2012 W2 form listing Lug’s income at $20,462. During an interview with police, Lug said she used Wells Fargo Bank and Bank of America in her scheme to traffic marijuana. Her boyfriend, she said, recently gave her $7,000 to deposit at Wells Fargo, and Lug said she knew that money was from the sale of marijuana.
Lug also told police she would help her boyfriend by picking up large boxes filled with drugs from different postal stores throughout Palm Beach County and delivering them to their apartment. Lug had a fraudulent driver license and would often use fictitious names like Tina Culler and Monica Breen.
Police made Lug look through a spreadsheet of recent bank transactions and point out which ones included money derived from the trafficking of drugs. Lug identified $46,700 worth of deposits stemming from the sale of marijuana.
