Man Arrested for Allegedly Firing Marijuana at Jail via Bow and Arrow
Says he was aiming at a squirrel
The Green Arrow he’s not, but David Wayne Jordan at least deserves credit for his creative attempt at allegedly trying to deliver marijuana to a Washington State jail inmate. His method? Tying a few grams of the plant to a hunting arrow and shooting it with a bow toward a mesh screen at the Whatcom County Jail.
But he still failed to hit the target, which led to his arrest on Tuesday on charges of trying to introduce contraband into a corrections facility.
Police say Jordan, 36, took the weed and shot it toward the screen which was part of a window to the jail’s recreation area, the Bellingham Herald reported. The screen’s openings would have easily accommodated the arrow and the intended recipient would have quickly gotten the package, said Whatcom County Sheriff Bill Elfo. But Jordan turned out to be a poor marijuana marksman and the arrow shot missed the window completely and landed on the building’s roof. Authorities said nobody was even in the jail’s recreation area, so it is unclear if there was a specific person for whom the marijuana was intended.
Jordan left the scene, but a civilian employee of the jail saw what he was doing and wrote down his license plate. Authorities tracked his car down to his address in Bellingham, Wash., and, warrant in hand, pushed their way into his home. Asked what he was doing firing an arrow at the jail, he told deputies that he was aiming at a squirrel.
“He had no explanation as to why squirrel hunting requires attaching marijuana to an arrow,” said Elfo.
Besides, through our research NewsFeed has found no evidence of any trends that indicate squirrels have given up nuts and started getting stoned. It should, however, be noted that recreational marijuana is legal in Washington State.
Just last week, Jordan was released from the jail on an assault charge, but he was rebooked on the contraband charge, resisting arrest and obstruction of law enforcement.
