Two charged separately for drug trafficking
Eric Andre Norris and Jennifer Hudgins are charged with drug trafficking in separate incidents.
Two people were charged with drug trafficking Tuesday, including one woman found to have drugs and small children in the same room, according to Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit Deputy Commander Woody Johnson.
Jennifer Hudgins was charged with drug trafficking when authorities found seven grams of heroin in her hotel room along with her two children. Johnson did not know the children’s exact age but said they were younger than 12 years old.
“We opened the door and the kids were there in the room,” Johnson said. “Dope was in her possession.”
The two children were released to their grandmother. Johnson said the task force acted after receiving information that Hudgins might be selling heroin out of her hotel room, where her children were also staying.
He said they had information she was bringing the heroin in from somewhere in Georgia.
In an unrelated case, authorities found 36 grams of crack cocaine in Eric Andre Norris’ home on Elm Street in Gadsden after executing a search warrant.
They were able to get the warrant because drugs had previously been purchased from his residence during prior undercover operations.
In addition to the cocaine, authorities also found a pistol in Norris’ residence.
Johnson said they have dealt with both suspects before, but that this was the first time they had caught Hudgins allegedly selling heroin.
Both Norris and Hudgins were taken to Etowah County Detention Center and remain there on $100,000 bond.
