Glendale police have arrested a man on a series of charges after a purportedly routine traffic stop. Law enforcement claims that they pulled the man over because he rolled through a stop sign in Glendale early Thursday morning. In the end, police booked the 34-year-old driver on suspicion of drug crimes, indecent exposure and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The purported stop sign violation occurred around 2:23 a.m. on Doverwood Drive. Glendale police say the man fled after an initial attempt to pull over his vehicle. However, police say that the man pulled over a short time later on Doverwood after police located his vehicle. Officers claim the man was not wearing any pants when they approached the vehicle.
According to the arresting officers, the man explained that driving around without wearing any pants gives him a sense of freedom. Police apparently did not agree with that freedom, as the Glendale man was arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure.
The driver's legal troubles, however, do not end with the claim of indecent exposure. News reports have generally focused on the allegations that the driver's pants and underwear were scattered across the floorboards and on the seat of the car. However, the man reportedly will be facing serious drug possession and DUI drug charges after the traffic stop.
Apparently police claim the man was in possession of methamphetamine and also that officers discovered a glass pipe during the encounter. The man has been released after posting $35,000 bail. He is tentatively scheduled to appear in court March 28.
